Near about 1000 years old temple it is. It is strongly believed that, this is the sthlam (Place) where the marriage proposal of Sri Subramanyar and Goddess Deivanai decided. The Urchava Moorthi of this temple is called in the name of “Hiranyasura Samhara Moorthi”. Sri Subramaniya Swamy won and killed the demon King Hiranyasura In the Tamil month Vaikasi, Sadayam star day. Lord Shiva asked Sri Subramaniya Swamy to stay here. Lord shiva appeared after the Shiv Pooja in the name of “Sri Pavanasa Peruman” and blessed Sri Subramanya Swamy. Since Hiranyasura was a devotee of Lord Shiva, Sri Subramaniya Swamy worshiped and performed a Shiv pooja under the Sthala Viruksha “Kura Tree” here to get rid of the Dosha of killing the demon King. Sri Subramaniya Swamy came to know the where about of Hiranyasura, he rushed to Tharangambadi and killed Hiranyasura also. He hide here for the purpose of performing the vedic rituals (Pithru Kadan) to his father’s death. He took the form of a fish and hide in the sea near Thrangambadi. King Soorabadman’s son “Hirenyasura” ran away from the battle field and got settled at Tharangambadi near Thiruvidaikazhi. He killed the demon “Soorabadhman” and all his associates. Sri Subramaniya Swamy won the battle against the Demon King “Soorabadhman”, occurred at Thiruchendur.
